How to debug Object Repository in UiPath Studio 24.10.x

Why am I unable to drag and drop elements from Object Repository to activities in a project upgraded to Studio 24.10.x?

Issue Description

When working with projects created in older Studio versions (< 24.10.x) that had modern design disabled and then upgraded to Studio 24.10.x or newer, users may encounter the following issues:

  1. Unable to drag and drop elements from Object Repository to activities (such as Click activity)
  2. UI Automation activities appear incomplete - they only display the "Indicate" text without the "or drag a screen from object repository" option

Here is how the affected UiA activities look like in the Studio canvas at this point:

Resolution

  1. Close UiPath Studio
  2. Locate and open the project.json file for your project in a text editor -> this file is located in the directory of your Studio project
  3. Find the modernBehaviour variable that is set to False
  4. Change the value from False to True
  5. Save the project.json file
  6. Reopen the project in UiPath Studio

After completing these steps, you should be able to:

  • Drag and drop elements from the Object Repository to the canvas
  • See the complete text "or drag a screen from object repository" in UI Automation activities

Prevention

This issue specifically affects projects that:

  1. Were created in Studio versions older than 24.10.x
  2. Had modern design disabled in project settings
  3. Were upgraded to Studio 24.10.x or newer

For future upgrades, it is recommended to check and update the modernBehaviour setting in project.json before working with Object Repository elements in upgraded projects.
