Can anyone please explain in clear steps how to connect to sharepoint through backend to extract excel from it and also requirements to set up sharePoint Application scope.

I don’t know if that helps you, but it is possible to access sharepoint files through windows explorer. Example: \\yoursite\sites\site

I Don’t want to connect through UI (front end). Please help me in understanding whether it is possible to connect sharepoint through backend or not

If you want to read and recover only sharepoint files, the way I have indicated you will be able to recover without using the front end. Just use your sharepoint link to open the folder on your windows explorer

If the option is disabled for you, force the call through your windows explorer.

\\yoursiteprimary.com\sites\sitesharepoint - I believe that there should be a variation of address depending on the version of Sharepoint.
