How to automate windows applications,selectors are not perfectly working, hot keys are also failing

I am facing issues with working with windows application (Allegro application).Unable to find the exact selectors and hot keys are also not working as expected. I am relying on images but which is not a reliable thing. Can i know is there any way to automate.
