Why am I experiencing high CPU utilization for unattended robots executions due to ffmpeg.exe process?
Issue Description
While running some unattended automations, high CPU usage spikes are occurring for the ffmpeg process.
This can be observed in Task Manager -> Processes
Root Cause
This high CPU usage for C:\Program Files\UiPath\Studio\ffmpeg\ffmpeg.exe process is generated by the Orchestrator Job Recording feature that was enabled for your process(es).
To observe job execution, enable "Record all jobs" for a short period to detect any unusual behavior. After gathering insights, switch to recording only failed jobs to optimize bandwidth and storage.
Job recording should be used selectively for troubleshooting - activate it when needed, then reduce usage once operations stabilize to avoid unnecessary data collection.
Resolution
Approach #1
Disable the Job Recording feature for the Orchestrator processes.
Approach #2
Use the Screenshot recording type instead of video recording for the process Job recording feature.
Approach #3
Add a dedicated GPU and increase the CPU speed and count to the Service Mode robot system if possible.
Note: The ffmpeg.exe cannot be configured to run with lower priority or reduced utilization to minimize high CPU impact.
