Help with getting the contents of a drop down

I am having some trouble grabbing the contents of a drop down menu. I was able to perform a hardware click and the drop menu is able to display now. The issue is find children and find elements doesn’t extract from the content from the dropdown menu. From inspecting element I am seeing that the webpage is tailwind and shadcn ui. I am very new to UI path and any help would be appreciated

EDIT: Learned about how to use the pause option, this did fix the issues I was having

Welcome to the community

  1. Looks like its a dynamic dropdown.so full list might not come at once.to confirm inspect and check if all options are loading in html
  2. Did you indicate the dropdown menu that appeared after the click only?

Cheers

Hi @adityakrishna.yerraguntla

This may happen because shadcn dropdown options are rendered separately in the DOM.

Try clicking the dropdown first, then indicate the option itself in UI Explorer and use Click/Get Text on it. If Find Children still doesn’t detect it, try Computer Vision or target the dropdown container instead of the button.

Hi @adityakrishna.yerraguntla ,
Try these steps once:

  1. Use UI Explorer
    • Open the dropdown.
    • Indicate one of the visible options directly.
    • Check whether the options are created in a different container such as a listbox, menu, or portal.
  2. Use Find Elements on the whole page
    • Instead of searching inside the dropdown parent, search from the browser/window level after the dropdown is opened.
    • Filter by the option tag, role, or class attributes.
  3. Use Get Text / Extract Text
    • Loop through the elements returned by Find Elements and use Get Text on each item.
  4. Check if data exists in the page source/API
    • Open browser Developer Tools (F12).
    • If the options come from a network/API call, it may be easier to retrieve the data via API rather than UI automation.
  5. Use Computer Vision as a fallback
    • If selectors are unstable or options are not exposed in the DOM, use Computer Vision Find Elements or OCR-based extraction.

Thanks

Hi @adityakrishna.yerraguntla,

Could you please share a screenshot of the dropdown?

Thanks!

After you perfom click activity, then are you getting dropdown menu ?

Try the ‘Get Attribute’ activity, I use that some times. The attribute could be one called ‘items’

Hi
This could be a because dynamic drop-down, Following steps works for me in one of the automation with similar UI.

  1. Click on down-down element.
  2. Type Into or Set Text first 2-3 letters only of item you want to select so that it loads the items till your selection.
  3. Use standard Select Item
