Forum request: make translation always available and configurable

Hello

I think the built in translation for forum posts is pretty good.

However I often see that the option/button isn’t available on all posts, even if the majority of the content isn’t in english.
Perhaps a minimum count of words is required for it to trigger?

I would like to see the button available on all posts, and perhaps make it configurable, so that if the underlying mechanics are in doubt, I am able to define the source language myself.

Update:
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the button, this is what it looks like

@SorenB

Yes, that would be indeed a helpful feature

I didn’t even notice we have this visible for some posts, so thank you for your post!
I now know it

FYI if you’re in Google Chrome (don’t know about Edge) you can highlight text, right click it, and select Translate.

Hi @postwick

Thank you for the suggestion :+1:
I know there are several ways of translating webpages, including Chrome functionality, but this feedback was simply intended to extend and improve the translation feature that UiPath Forum offers.

It’s a good suggestion, @SorenB.

It’s based on this Discourse plugin:

I believe what you’re asking for is essentially a core Discourse plugin improvement request, because it is something we can’t directly control (although you could try cross-posting to meta.discourse.org ).

Other than that, I’m curious about the specific post ID. Could you maybe link to the post? It looks like it contains enough content to trigger the correct language detection, which is one of the requirements for the button to show:

  • the language detection assigns the language to a specific post based on its content
  • the interface language of your account needs to be different from the detected language

If we figure out its a bug, then we’ll be able to submit it as such and it will be fixed with higher priority.

In the meantime, I expanded the selected text helper to include the Ask AI option, which also has the translation on it:

EDIT. I managed to edit your post @SorenB instead of posting my own. I suppose the weekend can’t come quickly enough

Hi @loginerror

Thank you for the insights into the underlying mechanics and for adding a “translation on request” feature

The post I was refering to is the one below.
However it has been missing on several posts prior to this, which is what has led me to create this post.

Thanks for the post. I’ve double-checked and the language was properly detected on that post:

And I figured it out; I’ve temporarily given ownership of the post to @Pablito and voilà, that was it:

I’ll report this to Discourse. It looks like the translator plugin is by default ignoring the system account:
