How can I extract tabular data from Word?

Resolution

Option 1: Use UiPath Marketplace Activity

Leverage the UiPathTeam.ExtractWordDocumentTable.Activities package available on the UiPath Marketplace.

  • Install the package from the UiPath Marketplace.
  • Use the activity to directly extract table data from the Word document.

Note: This activity is supported only in Windows-Legacy projects.

Option 2: Use Computer Vision (CV) Activities

  • Explore UiPath's Computer Vision Activities for extracting data visually from the Word document.
  • Resources: UiPath Computer Vision Activities
  • Advantages:
  • Works well with non-standard or complex table structures.
  • Useful when precise element-based extraction is not feasible.

Option 3: Convert Word Document to PDF

Convert the Word document into a PDF and then extract the tables using UiPath’s PDF extraction capabilities.

  • Use the Export to PDF feature in Word or automate this step using UiPath.
  • Extract tabular data using the Read PDF Text or Read PDF with OCR activities.
  • Process the extracted data to structure it appropriately.
