Why is the Edge browser extension v23.10.1 being blocked when forcing InPrivateModeAvailability?
Issue Description
After setting the InPrivateModeAvailability registry value to 2, this will force the browser to always open InPrivate mode and not just the current activity that has the InPrivate mode property enabled.
Policy options mapping:
- Enabled (0) = InPrivate mode available
- Disabled (1) = InPrivate mode disabled
- Forced (2) = InPrivate mode forced
But with the 23.10.1 browser extension, this is not working; it prompts a pop-up that it's being blocked.
Resolution
There are 2 approaches to this.
Approach 1
Go to regedit.exe to the following path:
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MSEdgeHTM\shell\open\command
And change the value to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" -inprivate -- "%1"
Approach 2
Upgrade to Studio/Extension v24.10 and also enable the Allow in Private option from the extension settings in the browser.
