Custom Input and reading files

Hi there,

We have the need to open a local file within a Custom Input HTML file. We need the file contents in order to dynamically populate drop down lists. Most of what I’ve seen on the net says that you can’t open a local file from a web server, however, the Custom Input HTML file isn’t run on a web server.

Does anyone have experience doing this through javascript or jQuery?
