What happens when continue is selected at the time an exception is detected?

it will come out of the particular activity and trying to execute from first activity in debugging mode

I think you are asking the question in the time of debugging the workflow.Is that right?.
Otherwise ,If you are referring to particular activity in the workflow,you can use continue on error property.
