Confusing Academy Quiz

I simply find this confusing on purpose. They are mentioning that VMs use the same Machine Template which has only 2 runtimes. I dont see how you can run more than 2 jobs simultaniously using the same Machine template which has only 2 Runtimes.

Hi @Albi_Xhako

Hope it helps

Orchestrator - Useful concepts in unattended automation?

If it’s helpful please mark as solution and let me know if u still have

Thanks

Hi nishiijain,
i appreciate your feedback but you have only 2 Unattedned licences that u assign to this Only Machine Template. We assing licences to Machine Template and not machines(VMs).
Still you feedback is wrong because you have 4 VM and you cant run 5 foreground processes.
Thank you,
Albi

Hi @Albi_Xhako

Runtimes are per machine, not per template.
With 4 machines × 2 runtimes = 8 background runtimes total.

Foreground jobs: max 1 per machine → 4 max
Background jobs: up to 8 max

So valid options are:

  • 3 foreground + 5 background
  • 5 background

Hi @Monali_Vekariya
Thank you for your comment. Does this mean if i have bough 2 Unattended licences and then i create a Machine Template in Orchestrator, i can multiplicate the runtimes just by adding VMs? This doesnt make sense to me, or im missing something. Please read the question carefully, we are talking simultanious runtimes.According to your feedback, i can buy only one licence and then have multiple VMs linked to one Machine template on which i have assigned the licence.

Having 2 unattended licenses limits you to 2 simultaneous unattended jobs. Adding more VMs or runtimes doesn’t increase this; you need more licenses to run more jobs at the same time.

Yes, but the question says, simultanious runtimes! So how is this possible that with only 2 runtimes and 1 Machine template, to run more than 2 jobs simultaniously?

Hi @Albi_Xhako

It’s not possible. With 2 unattended licenses, you can only run 2 unattended jobs at the same time, even if you add more VMs or define multiple runtimes on the machine template. The number of simultaneous jobs is limited by the number of licenses, not the number of machines or runtimes.

Yeah, i agree with you but i think the options to select from this Question are wrong then

The question is misleading. With 2 runtimes per machine and 4 machines, you can run up to 8 jobs simultaneously if unattended, but foreground jobs are limited to 1 per machine. Some options like 5 foreground jobs aren’t possible given these limits.

You are right about the question, but you mean 2 runtimes per machine template as they consume runtimes(licences) , but question says there is only 1 machine template on which are connected 4 VMs. Thank you for your persistence.

@Albi_Xhako

There is no mention of the type of the runtimes are these Attended or unattended but as one of the answer should be correct so we can assume the runtimes are the Attended runtimes.

Attended runtimes can run n number of background jobs simultaneously so I feel the answer is 5 jobs created using a background process

@ashokkarale
Thank you for sharing this information about attended robots. The right answer was:

  • 3 foreground + 5 background
  • 5 background.
