Can UiRobot run offline?

Hi there,

I’m running UiRobot on a workstation that sometimes I have to reconnect the internet.

Is there a way, UiRobot can run when disconnected from Orchestrator. Or What happens if connectivity goes off while running the process?

Hi @wilbardmtei ,
In UiPath, the Robot normally needs an Orchestrator connection for communication, licensing, and receiving new jobs. UiPath does provide an offline Robot allowance that an administrator can configure under Tenant → Settings → Robot Security, up to 168 hours without license verification.

Thanks

Hi @wilbardmtei,

If the process is already running and it doesn’t have any dependency on Orchestrator for example, retrieving Assets, getting Queue Items, or updating the Transaction status. it continue running even if the Robot gets disconnected from Orchestrator.

In short, the process can continue running after losing connection to Orchestrator, but Orchestrator-dependent activities will fail. You can add retries for these activities so that they can succeed if the connection is restored after a short intermittent issue.

You also need to configure the offline Robot allowance. This allows the process to continue running when the Robot loses connection to Orchestrator. Otherwise, the process may stop after 2 minutes when the Robot gets disconnected.

Thanks!

Hi @wilbardmtei,

Yes, it depends on how the Robot is connected to Orchestrator and how the process is executed.

If the Robot loses connectivity with Orchestrator while a job is already running, the process can generally continue running on the machine, provided the workflow itself does not require Orchestrator connectivity or any online resources.

However, if the Robot is disconnected before the job is triggered, Orchestrator-dependent execution may not be possible. Also, features such as getting jobs, updating job status, queues, assets, credentials, and other Orchestrator interactions may require connectivity.

I would recommend testing the exact scenario in your environment, especially if the process uses Orchestrator assets, queues, or credentials.

Hope this helps!

Hi @wilbardmtei,

If the connection drops during a running job, the job keeps running locally, and logs are buffered in LiteDB and sent to Orchestrator once the connection is restored. Job status is held in the Robot service’s memory and syncs on reconnect. Activities that call Orchestrator (assets, queues, Set Transaction Status) will fail during the outage.

Don’t restart the Robot service while offline. If you do, the status is lost and the job runs again once Orchestrator is back.

Cheers!

Yes. It depends on how the process was started.

  • Robot continues executing even if connection to Orchestrator is lost.
  • Running process is not stopped due to temporary network disconnection.
  • Queue, Asset, license validation, job status update, and log sync operations may fail while offline.
  • New jobs cannot be triggered from Orchestrator when the robot is disconnected.
  • Processes started locally (Assistant, UiRobot.exe, Task Scheduler) can run without Orchestrator connectivity.
  • Once connectivity is restored, the robot reconnects and resumes synchronization.
  • Recommended to store required files, packages, and configurations locally before execution.
  • Add proper exception handling for Orchestrator-dependent activities to avoid process failures.

@wilbardmtei Yes, UiRobot can run locally without a continuous Orchestrator connection if the package and dependencies are already available on the machine.

If the connection drops during execution, the process may continue, but any Orchestrator-dependent activities such as Queues, Assets, Storage Buckets, or cloud/API calls can fail.

So for unstable internet, keep critical processing local and add retry/exception handling for online dependencies.

@wilbardmtei

May I know the purpose of the running it offline?
