Is there a way to update the settings on UiPath Assistant without Admin privileges?
Issue Description: When new UiPath Studio is installed, it requires Admin privileges to update the Orchestrator settings on UiPath Assistant (Machine Key and URL).
Resolution: Avoiding admin privileges to update the Orchestrator Settings of UiPath Assistant is suitable in the scenarios, when the User does not have admin privileges and is required to frequently switch between different Orchestrator instances (eg- Dev, UAT, Test).
- It is possible only if the User installs the Robot in User Mode and is recommended for attended automation scenarios.
- The Robot runs under the user that installed it, and thus possess the exact rights as that particular user.
Installation Steps:
- Using UiPathStudioSetup.exe : The UiPathStudioSetup.exe file enables to install the Community Edition of Studio with a user-mode Robot. The installation path - %localappdata%\UiPath and all other advanced options are already configured to help you get Studio up and running right away.
- Using UiPathStudio.msi: Use Command line parameters to perform the installation with customer install location . eg- Use the below command and add the user mode parameter APPLICATIONFOLDER as well -
UiPathStudio.msi ADDLOCAL=DesktopFeature,Studio,Robot APPLICATIONFOLDER=%localappdata%\UiPath
Note: Using the MSI installer, as per the Windows policy User is required to have admin privileges only while installing and later on to change the Orchestrator settings, admin privilege is not required.
