Automation suite installation - Hardware sizing

Hello everyone,

I was looking the Automation Suite Install Sizing Calculator.

A question for those who have been through this before: Doesn’t the infrastructure sizing take into consideration the installation of a test environment?

Let me explain. Consider that this is the hardware configuration it suggests for the products I need.

If I have to set up a test environment, with its orchestrator, and I am not talking about a separate tenant, but separate environment, should it be considered separate hardware? Or does this take into account additional possible installations?

Thanks

Hi

The UiPath Automation Suite Install Sizing Calculator does not take into consideration the installation of a test environment by default. This is because the hardware requirements for a test environment can vary depending on the specific needs of the organization.

If you need to set up a test environment, you will need to factor in the additional hardware requirements. You can use the UiPath Automation Suite Install Sizing Calculator to estimate the hardware requirements for your test environment by selecting the same products and features that you selected for your production environment.

Start with the same hardware requirements as your production environment. Then monitor the performance of the test environment and adjust the hardware resources as needed.

Hope this clarifies

does it make sense to set up a single node server for the test environment, as an alternative to multi node?

Well it depends based on

  • The size and complexity of your test environment.
  • The number of users who will be using the test environment.
  • The type of testing that you will be performing.

If you have a small and simple test environment with a few users, then a single-node server may be sufficient. However, if you have a large and complex test environment with many users, then a multi-node server may be necessary to provide the performance and scalability that you need.

Generally when we look at pros and cons

Single-node server:
Pros: Simple to set up and manage. Cost-effective.

Cons: Limited performance and scalability.

Multi-node server:
Pros: Better performance and scalability. More reliable.

Cons: More expensive to set up and manage.

If you are unsure whether a single-node server or a multi-node server is right for your test environment, I would recommend to get in touch with UiPath support team so that they ca suggest based on your environment setup

Hope this clarifies

thank you very much.

One last question: how come in the single node it doesn’t allow you to select the number of users or events per single installed product? I would like to understand the capabilities of a test environment in single node

A single-node test environment is typically only suitable for small and simple test environments with a few users. If you need to test a large and complex application with many users, then a single-node test environment may not be sufficient.

If you need to test a large and complex application with many users, then I recommend using a multi-node test environment. A multi-node test environment will provide you with the performance, scalability, and reliability that you need.

some of the limitations of a single-node test environment that I have observed

Performance:
single-node test environment is limited in terms of its performance. If you are testing a complex application with many users, then a single-node test environment may not be able to handle the load.

Scalability:
A single-node test environment is not scalable. If you need to test a large and complex application with many users, then you will need to use a multi-node test environment.

Reliability:
It’s less reliable than a multi-node test environment. If the single node fails, then the entire test environment will be unavailable.

Hope this helps

so, I’ll give you an example, a couple of users registered to use the test manager, how much data can be entered into the test manager on a single node?

Data wise - it’s depends again as I told earlier
It’s based on number of users I would say
To just give an example

  • If you have fewer than 10 users and your tests are relatively simple, you can use a single node.
  • If you have more than 10 users or your tests are more complex, you should consider scaling to multiple nodes.
