How can I fix apps that are not loading PDFs?

Issue Description

Apps are not loading PDFs or the PDF is not viewable in Action Center. The issue may only affect some users and might not extend to all browsers.

The error may look something like this:

This article addresses a few possible causes but primarily focuses on collecting data regarding the problem.

Root Cause

There can be many causes for a PDF that might not load:

  • the PDF is not available
  • the browser is blocking the PDF
  • an issue with the PDF itself

Diagnosing/Resolving

  1. If using Chrome, check the setting described in this article.
    1. In the browser, go to: chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments
    2. Make sure this is set to open PDFs.
  2. If this does not address the issue, please collect the following:
    1. Har Trace
    2. Console Logs
  3. If this is an Apps issue, please export the app. See link.
  4. Any other relevant information:
    1. Screenshots
    2. If the PDF is uploaded via an automation, share the automation, etc.
