Why are robots restricted to a single interactive console session, preventing multiple parallel sessions on the same machine?

Issue Description

The issue occurs when the "Login to Console" option is set to True/Yes. This setting restricts robots operating on the machine to a single interactive console session, which limits the ability to run multiple robots or processes simultaneously in parallel sessions.

Error Message

Another interactive job is using the machine's console. Only one interactive job can use the console at a time

Root Cause

The problem arises because the "Login to Console" setting forces robots to use a single interactive console session instead of allowing them to operate via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions. With this configuration, only one user or robot can run processes on the machine at a given time.

Resolution

To allow multiple parallel sessions and enable robots to utilize RDP sessions instead of console sessions, change the "Login to Console" setting to False/No for all robot accounts on the machine.

Below are two methods to resolve the issue:

Method 1: Change Settings in Orchestrator UI

  1. Navigate to Tenant → Manage Access → Robot Account in UiPath Orchestrator.
  2. Identify the robot account where changes are required.
  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the robot account name.
  4. Select Edit from the dropdown menu.
  5. Under the Advanced Settings section, locate the Login to Console setting.
  6. Set Login to Console to No.
  7. Save the changes and restart the Robot services.

Method 2: Modify the UiPath.Settings File

  1. Identify the deployment mode of the robot:

    • User Mode: The UiPath.Settings file is found in %localappdata%\UiPath\.
    • Service Mode: The UiPath.Settings file is found in %programdata%\UiPath\.

  2. Open the UiPath.Settings file using a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++.

  3. Locate the parameter:

    LoginToConsole=true

  4. Change the parameter to:

    LoginToConsole=false

  5. Save the file.

  6. Restart the Robot service to apply the configuration changes.
