Activity timeout exceeded

I am facing an issue with activities like Find Children,find element saying activity timeout exceeded.
This issue is very often.
Can anybody please let me know what kind of fix we usually put in these scenarios?
I tried with delay but it doesn’t seem to work much.

An exceeded timeout indicates that the selector you’ve assigned for the activity was not found on the webpage or application. The solution is to adjust it using Indicate on Screen for the activity, or adjusting it in UI Explorer. How you adjust the selector varies from scenario to scenario.
